Comparison

Blobster or jsonformatter.org: local workbench or online formatter.

jsonformatter.org is a free online formatter and validator with tree and graph views and converters between JSON, XML, YAML and CSV, and it validates JSON in the browser. It also has a Save Online feature whose links are public unless you log in, and its privacy policy warns against saving sensitive data. Blobster has no save or share feature.

Short answer

Choose jsonformatter.org for quick formatting, validation and conversion of data you would be comfortable posting publicly. Choose Blobster for production payloads, tokens and customer data, where you want no save button, no analytics and no ads around the document.

Key points

  • jsonformatter.org says JSON is validated in the browser itself.
  • Its FAQ says data saved with Save Online without logging in becomes public.
  • Its privacy policy lists Google Analytics and Clicky, refers to Google advertising and asks users, in capitals, not to save sensitive data with the save function.
  • The site keeps the last formatted JSON in the browser’s local storage.

Where jsonformatter.org is stronger

It is one page away. Paste JSON, press Format or Validate, and get line-highlighted errors and a fixer for missing quotes. The site also has single-purpose tools for converting JSON to XML, CSV and YAML and back, sorting, minifying, escaping and comparing JSON, plus formatters for XML, YAML and HTML. There is nothing to install.

Where Blobster is different

Blobster is an installed extension built around keeping the document local. It has no save or share function, no account, no analytics and no advertising. It opens files, pasted text, URLs and raw pages, and covers work a formatter page does not try to do: table views for records, NDJSON with bad lines kept separate, HAR and OpenAPI previews, local edits with undo, JSONPath queries, path copy and redacted copy.

Validation in the browser is only part of the picture

jsonformatter.org says JSON is validated in the browser itself. The rest of the site still matters. Save Online stores the data on the site and creates a link, which is public when you are not logged in, with lifetimes from one hour to never (the longer ones need a login).

The privacy policy asks users, in capitals, not to save sensitive data with the save function, describes Google Analytics and Clicky tracking and refers to Google’s advertising terms. The page also keeps your last formatted JSON in local storage on that machine.

A simple decision rule

Use jsonformatter.org for sample data, documentation examples and anything you would post in public. Use Blobster for responses, logs, tokens and exports from real systems, where a misplaced Save click or a shared link would be a leak.
